We get asked all the time, what can I do to avoid back surgery? If you are serious about getting on top of a disc bulge, herniated disc or persistent lower back pain, this may be the solution. A common treatment in the US and Australia, Flexion-Distraction treatment relieves muscle spasm and disc bulges placing pressure on the spinal cord or peripheral (local) nerves causing pain, tingling and weakness into the legs.
Treatment involves the use of a specialised table to decompress the spine, reducing within the bulging disc or tight low back muscles. Over time, the result is less pain, greater movement with the hope of avaoiding surgery or medications. There is no pain involved in the treatment. Over time, the ‘slipped disc’ may repair itself with the help of reduced pressure and inflammation.
Treatment can benefit back pain, disc herniation / ruptured disc / bulging disc / prolapsed disc, sciatica / leg pain, Spinal stenosis, facet tropism, facet hyperostosis, failed back surgery syndromes, spondylolisthesis, “hip pain” due to sciatic nerve irritation, transitional segment, scoliosis, ankylosing spondylitis and arthritis: (both inflammatory and non-inflammatory arthritis).
How often do I need treatment?
Under ideal conditions, disc injuries take 3 months to heal. Commonly treatment is carried out at 3 sessions per week for 8-12 weeks with frequency decreasing with improvement in symptoms. The extent and seriousness in symptoms will determine if more than 3 sessions per week are appropriate. Flexion-Distraction is also fantastic if your low back pain not responding to regular chiropractic, osteopathy or physiotherapy.
