Pregnancy & Newborns

During pregnancy, a mother’s body goes through enormous hormonal, postural and physical changes. In addition, work and family commitments mean, expecting mothers don’t tend to “slow down”.

Our goal is to help your body adapt to the changing pressures of pregnancy and contribute to the harmonious growth and development of your baby.

If a baby has a challenging entrance into the world, such as a difficult birth with lots of intervention, this can sometimes lead to irritable unsettled behaviour, difficulty latching or poor broken sleep.

We recognise that specific, gentle, safe and often tonal (soft tissue) care can help. Dr Sheridan has years of postgraduate expertise in pediatric / newborn care and a passion for this area in particular.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a mother’s body goes through enormous hormonal, postural and physical changes. In addition, work and family commitments mean, expecting mothers don’t tend to “slow down”. More and more data is recognising the importance of foetal movement and positioning.

Our Chiropractors are certified in Websters Technique. A technique focused on the pelvic stability and balance of the mother, as well as the position of the growing baby. We have extensive experience with foetuses in the breech position as well as uterine constraint and reduced foetal movement.

Our goal is to help your body adapt to the changing posture and stress of pregnancy and contribute to the harmonious growth and development of your baby.

Newborns and Babies

In the last 20-30 years there has been a marked increase in intervention during labour. Forceps, Vontoose (vacuum extraction), Caesarean section all place enormous stress on the spine of the newborn, particularly the cranials and upper cervical spine. Even if you have had a natural normal labour with no intervention, having your newborn checked within the first 6 weeks of birth may help to relieve them of spinal nerve stress which can cause them to be unsettled and irritable. Tension and disturbance of the spinal joints can have a wide-ranging effect on the baby’s body, from noticeable restricted movement (baby latching only on one side, or turning to one side) to digestive issues and poor sleep patterns. While parents take their children to a chiropractor for a variety of reasons, it is important to acknowledge that Chiropractors do not claim to “cure” conditions. The main purpose of  chiropractic care is to improve posture and spinal nerve flow thereby helping to improve overall natural function of the body.

The good news is, our track record with helping people like you is excellent. By taking time to listen, determine exactly the type of headache is causing the problems and formulate a plan to alleviate them, you could be only a phone call away from a much happier life.

Chiropractic check-ups are also encouraged when a baby hits their milestones because of tumbles while learning to sit up, crawling and most importantly when learning to walk.

A baby’s spine is very supple during the first few months of life. Therefore the techniques used are specialised and appropriate for a developing spine. The team at Dynamic Family Chiropractic use specific gentle paediatric techniques to check and adjust a baby’s spine. Paediatric techniques differ to the more traditional techniques used on adults, and are likened to specific sustained pressure on the involved area (like pressing your eyeball), rather than manual care. Having your baby checked as soon after birth as possible gives them a great start to a happy and healthy life.
